Community energy is about local people taking control of their energy system and we put community engagement at the heart of what we do.

Community Network

Our first two solar installations at Ashton and Glendale came about from our relationships with local organisations near the schools. We continue to build relationships with grassroots groups across the city and work closely with them to ensure our projects are led by and representative of local people.

Our network of community organisation members helps build Glasgow Community Energy's legitimacy and deepens our understanding of how to make our projects work for local people.

Neighbourhood Workshops

We run regular community energy workshops and work directly with community organisations to:

  • Give local people skills and knowledge about community energy
  • Increase our understanding of what challenges communities face
  • Work together to develop ideas for future projects.

We focus on neighbourhoods that suffer most from climate and social injustice, and this local input is a central part of developing our plans for more community owned projects.

Schools Workshops

We work directly with schools to deliver hands-on workshops about solar panels, renewable energy and climate change. These sessions help young people understand where their energy comes from and why community ownership matters. They also help us to build links with communities around our existing and potential future solar installations.

Annual General Meeting

Our AGM is open to all members and is a chance to hear about our progress, vote on key decisions, and shape the future direction of the co-operative. We're run on the 'one member, one vote' principle, so no matter how many shares you own, you have an equal say.
