Be part of Glasgow's energy future

We're your local energy co-operative — putting solar on schools, funding grassroots activism, and building community power.

Who we are

As a co-operative, Glasgow Community Energy is owned and run by our members. Trading since 2020, we exist to tackle the climate emergency and deliver real social benefit for our city.

We're guided by a volunteer Board of Directors drawn from communities across Glasgow and governed by democratic Rules that put people before profit. From our first solar installations to today, our history has been shaped by the people who believe in community-led energy.

What we do

We install solar panels on schools and public buildings, develop off-grid community PowerHubs, run energy workshops and fund grassroots activism through our Cathy McCormack Community Activism Fund.

Since 2020, we've been generating clean energy and social benefit for Glasgow's communities. We're working to deliver 1MW of community-owned solar across the city by 2030. Follow our latest news to see how you can get involved.

What your membership makes possible

Cathy McCormack Community Activism Fund

Income from our solar installations funds grassroots community projects across Glasgow through the Cathy McCormack Community Activism Fund — named in honour of the Easterhouse activist who fought for climate and social justice.

Tackling the climate emergency

Our solar installations save nearly 50 tonnes of CO₂ per year — and we're working towards a target of 1MW of community-owned solar across Glasgow by 2030. We also develop off-grid community PowerHubs and run workshops to build energy literacy across the city.

Democratic ownership

As a co-operative, we're run on the 'one member, one vote' principle. No matter how many shares you own, you have a genuine say in how we're run and where our profits go.

Regulated & transparent

We're registered with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and have 21-year contracts backing our income until 2041. Our Rules ensure full democratic accountability to our members.
